Intended Administrative or Educational Support Objective:

__2__   Provide expanded access to reserve materials at all times for traditional students and distance learners through web delivery.

 

 

 

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:

__2__a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:  Using innovations in technology, the Library would expand access to course reserve materials by scanning articles and placing them on a web page.  Four classes were used to test the system, and feedback from faculty and students was used to correct initial files.

 

__2__a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:  Students reported problems with file size and the clarity of scanned articles.  Faculty reported concern with file conversion times.

Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:  File sizes were reduced, and the format was switched from TIF to PDF files for increased speed of conversion.  It became a standard request of faculty to provide clean copies of reserve materials for scanning purposes, as original’s condition directly effects the quality of the documents retrieved by students online.

 

Second Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:

__2__b. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:  Once the system was performing successfully in the Tampa Campus Library, the proliferation of the electronic reserve system to include the Regional Campuses became an important addition to the process.

 

__2__b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:  Faculty and students indicated the need for equivalent reserve services on all campuses.  This required the identification of a method of easier delivery of online documents to students from the electronic reserves system.

 

 

__2__b. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services: The addition of Regional Campuses to the electronic course reserve system with adequate training.  The creation of an e-mail system for sending documents from the electronic reserves site directly to students’ e-mail addresses.  The creation of an online statistical database allowing faculty and staff access to site and document use statistics.
