IMAGE CAPTION: On September 1, 1941, the German government issued a decree, signed by Reinhard Heydrich, requiring all Jews in the Reich and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia over the age of six to wear a badge in the form of a yellow Star of David (Judenstern) bearing the word Jude (Jew in German). The decree was gradually extended to all German-occupied areas, where local words were used. The badge shown bears the word Jood, (Jew in Dutch), printed in Hebraic style.
