Welcome to the Library Research Assistant Program

2013 Library GURUsThe Library Research Assistant (LRA) program is here to assist students in achieving access to the expanse of resources and online materials that they may need. We serve as the connection link between an undergraduate and a librarian.

We are able to assist fellow students with starting their research, basic usage of databases, and familiarity with the library resources. We also provide outreach services to meet students where they are and assist them in jump starting their research.

What is a “library research assistant”?

LRAs are students (just like you) who have been trained by research librarians to answer questions, such as:

  • How do I find scholarly sources for my paper?
  • What’s a “library database” and how do I search it?
  • How do I search the library’s catalog for books?
  • What is MLA (or APA) style? How do I make a basic citation?
  • I have the call number for a book, but I can’t find it. HELP!

How do I connect with a Library Research Assistant ?

Will the LRA be able to answer all of my questions?

We can help you kickstart your research and find some great library resources. However, if you have in-depth questions and require more extensive library help, please contact a librarian online or in person »

LRA Hours:

Come visit at the front desk of the library!

I am originally from Apopka, Florida. I am currently as Sophomore and have spent the last year here at USF. During the summer I was an OTL (Orientation Team Leader) and helped many first year students become part of USF. I loved being an Orientation Team Leader so much that I also became the Network Leader for the Sports Network for New Student Connections. I am also part of Alpha Sigma Phi, a fraternity of campus, and have be heavily involved in Intramural Sports and Beef Studs. I am very excited to help everyone as a Library Research Assistant and please feel free to ask me anything about the Library of USF in general.

Everyone is in the same boat as you, but it is just up to you to make it a worthwhile experience. Take advantage of USF and get involved in something you enjoy doing.

I am from the small town of Waterbury, Vermont, but have loved spending the last two years here at USF. Before taking the job as a GURU at the USF Library, I worked part time at a law firm. I am double-majoring in International Business and Finance with a minor in Religious Studies. Aside from being excited to be apart of the USF Library’s GURU program, I am also enthusiastic to be planning a trip to the United Arab Emirates and gearing up for the LSAT, so that I can attend Law School, preferably in New England.

Be part of the community that is the USF Library. Seek help from a GURU!

Not too far from home, I left Kissimmee, FL to persue my studies at USF and I am currently in the nursing program. I have worked at the front desk at the library for the past year and I am extremely excited to be part of the GURU family. When I am not studying to become a Bull Nurse or working, I love to work out at the gym or relax and spend time with my friends.

I am a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering. I came from Caracas, Venezuela two years ago to study at USF and it has been fantastic! My favorite database is Academic Search Premier because I think is one of the easiest to use. I love to read Latin American authors like Isabel Allende and Gabriel García Márquez. I hope to get a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at John Hopkins University. I am very open in meeting new people so if you ever need any help with research projects don’t hesitate in asking. You can always get help from a GURU!
