Welcome from the Director

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR). Engagement in undergraduate research is both transformational and beneficial to students, faculty and the greater university community. Many studies show that students involved in undergraduate research achieve higher grades, have a deeper understanding of their chosen discipline and are more competitive for jobs and graduate and professional school admissions. At USF, there are many types of undergraduate research experiences available and the OUR is committed to providing support and resources to students, faculty, staff, administrators and community leaders engaged in undergraduate research activities. I hope that you will be inspired to get involved with undergraduate research at USF.

A primary goal of the OUR is to provide access to services and resources. For students, the OUR provides a variety of services and resources to help you make informed decisions about research opportunities and to help you navigate the process of successfully obtaining a research experience. If you need a good place to start, be sure to attend a “Getting Started” workshop. For faculty, administrators and staff, we are committed to partnering with you to achieve student success and we offer information and a variety of resources to further all undergraduate research activities at USF.

Please explore the OUR website to learn more about the OUR and its mission. In addition, please visit the OUR office located on the second floor of the main library. I am confident that the time you spend with us will be well worth the investment as it is our aim to inspire inquiry and discovery across all disciplines!

Sincerely,

Richard S. Pollenz, Ph.D.
Professor and OUR Director
