This section is a series of photographs taken from the progression of my painting. I began by creating this image on the computer:
This was made from several individual photographs and composed from a sketch. I then chose the main underlying color of each area of the composition and put it down as the first layer, sketching the composition out as I went.
At this point I had the structure for the painting, so I continued to block in other elements and made the decision to leave the background of this layer largely untouched, since the less detail an area has the more it recedes in space.
I added the table and chairs on the sidewalk since that is an indisputable part of the cafés and Paris in general. Then I began to work on the textures for the wall and for the floor on which there is the labyrinth from Chartres cathedral. I also started sketching in the Eiffel Tower elements that begin to obscure the café street scene.
Here I added more details in the foreground, completing the tree and the plant in the café window and adding the black fence posts.
The final layer included painting in the Eiffel Tower beams, leaving it abstracted to not be obvious as the Eiffel Tower. Also, I worked on the upper levels of the building and added the lights and the menu sign to the café.
